It's been many months since I've posted here. Ever since my Art by Susmitha and Veganosaurus Facebook Pages have taken off, I had less time to post here. And since I update the pages with the latest news about what I'm working on, photos of my creations and links to the websites they're being sold at, I feel that perhaps doing so again on the blog would be redundant. Therefore, I've decided to stop posting here entirely and just focus on my Facebook Pages more.

A hearty thanks to all the followers of this blog. Your encouragement and kind words so far have meant a lot to me. :)

LOVE carnelian copper clay pendant

This LOVE pendant is truly a one of a kind work of wearable art!

I started out by turning a gorgeous Carnelian Agate into the heart of this pendant and sculpted all the other components around it. The pendant has been generously embedded with copper, which matches the twisted copper wire bail and adorned with delicate sculptures and the word LOVE. Then all the intricate details have been emphasized with the help of metallic mica powders in golden and copper tones.

Length: 2 3/4 inches (6.8 centimeters)
Width: a little short of 2 1/4 inches (5.5 centimeters)

Carnelian carries the healing powers of abundant energy and creativity. It aids trust in one self and one's own perceptions. The Carnelian in this pendant has been charged with Reiki to enhance its metaphysical properties. There's an opening at the back of the pendant, right behind the stone so its energy flows freely to the wearer.

VEGAN turquoise clay and silver pendant with moonstone

A fabulous, creamy white moonstone rests in a pool of turquoise while the word VEGAN floats by its side. Spirals made of fine silver wire and metallic mica powders adorn the pendant. The bail is made of fine silver wire.

Moonstone is a gemstone for new beginnings, inner growth and strength. It carries the beautiful energies of selfless love, nurturing, hope and abundance. A stone that is apt for the message of Veganism. I have charged it with Reiki energy to enhance its metaphysical properties.

There is a hole in the pendant behind the moonstone so that light passes through it and it's healing energy touches the person wearing it.

A beautiful tree stands in the middle of this pendant with the words TREE HUGGER floating around it.

This is by far one of my most favorite pieces among my recent creations! It's been painstakingly hand sculpted in polymer clay and embellished with copper. Then metallic powders have been rubbed on to highlight all the minute details.

Truly a one of a kind piece!

A beautiful black onxy (with white and brown streaks) rests in the middle of this hand sculpted polymer clay pendant in burgundy. Beautiful, highly detailed roses, the word BLOOM and a fine silver spiral wave surround it. The pendant has been adorned with metallic mica powders to highlight the details. The bail is made of fine silver wire.

If I laughed in colors, they would be happy purples, violets and fuchsias (a fancy word for dark, bright pink) with the soft undertones of golds. :)

Give Peas A Chance Go Veg copper handstamped pendant

Don't you just love playing upon words?

The larger circle in this pendant says "GIVE PEAS A CHANCE" and the smaller one says "GO VEG". The two are linked together with copper wire which carried three Jade "PEAS". :)

The copper has been put through an antiquing patina process which has brought out some flashes of very pretty rainbow colors. Especially on the "GO VEG" part. Haven't been able to capture it on camera so well. You need to see it in person to admire the colors completely.

STRAWBERRY ROSE TEA red lampwork and silver pendant

My very favorite tea room in Bangalore is called Infinitea. They have a huge selection of teas ranging from strong chais to mild herbals. The last time I visited there, they had introduced a new line of fruit and flower teas and the one that tempted me most is called Strawberry Rose. It's a delicious blend of rose petals, strawberry bits, lemon grass and a few other delicate flavors. When it arrived, I found that it smelled heavenly! I could barely contain myself for the 3 minutes of seeping time. And when I finally had my first sip I was in pure bliss.

If the flavors and fragrances of this Strawberry Rose tea took form in shapes and colors, I'd say this pendant is what that first sip would look like. :)

The pendant features an absolutely gorgeous lampwork bead handmade, cleaned and kiln annealed by the talented artist Debbie Olsen. The bead is of a deep red base with turquoise and purple designs on it. I have wrapped it in fine silver wire and accented the pendant with delicious deep red Swarovski crystals to match.

Danu copper azurite necklace and earrings set

The colors, textures and shapes in this necklace and earrings set make me think of Danu, the Mother Goddess. The earthy blue greens of the azurite stones compliment the rustic copper components beautifully.

I received the three fused copper rings which form the focals of the necklace and the earrings from my dear friend Cindy Pack of http://casbeads.etsy.com She handmade the rings herself. I held onto them for a while before I could come up with a perfect design to highlight their beauty. I love the way this set has turned out! She sent me a few more rings and I intend to create something lovely with them just for myself.

These earthy hoops have been shaped out of 18 gauge copper wire, hammered, decorated with delicate copper wire and my own handmade polymer clay rose and finally antiqued and hand polished.

Hoops are a classic and yet modern. They never go out of fashion! :)

My very first stamped silver piece. The moment I saw this sterling silver oval blank I fell in love with it! I could visualize a beautiful pendant and immediately swiped it up.

I hand stamped the word BLISS onto the oval, along with a super-cute, tiny double heart design. Then I hammered it to add texture. I wrapped the bail with twisted fine silver wire and added a gorgeous, high quality, purple faceted amethyst for an extra bling. The charm clinks against the oval and makes a pleasant sound. :)

I finally put the pendant through an antiquing patina process and hand polished it to bring out all the details beautifully. I'm particularly pleased with the way the twists in the fine silver wire are highlighted!

The pendant has been charged with Reiki to enhance the amethyst's metaphysical healing properties.

This pendant would make a wonderful gift if you aren't too tempted to keep it for yourself. :)

These earrings, named Damon's Kiss, feature deliciously dark red garnets at the ends of fine silver ear threaders. The rubber stoppers at the ends can be removed and the threaders slipped into the ear piercing at whatever length you like them. Then the stoppers are pressed onto the tips of the threaders for safety.

Entwined In My Love - fine silver wire heart and faceted garnets pendant

Wow it's been a while since I created a fully wire worked pendant, particularly in fine silver. I LOVE the way this one turned out! :)

The gorgeous, deep red faceted garnets look fantastic on the backdrop of fine silver wire. I first formed the heart shape with twisted fine silver wire and then wrapped a "vine" of fine silver with garnets on it all around the heart. Then, as a finishing touch, I added a single garnet drop to dangle at the center of the heart.

Lily and Rose - Mommy and Baby Turtleclopses

Lily and Rose live on Turtleclops Mountain in Crater Lake. Lily is Rose's little baby girl. They're part of a large and happy family. Today Rose is telling Lily her favorite story, the one about Turtleclops Mountain and the rich family history of the Turtleclopses.

Once upon a time, thousands of years ago, Turtleclops mountain was an active volcano and used to be known as Lava Peak by the then residents of Monsterville. Then one day it became dormant and as the centuries went by the cyclopses forgot all about the eruptions.

Ms. Daisy Turtleclops, Lily's great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother, was an adventurous young lady of those times and she decided to be the first monster to scale Lava Peak and touch the summit.

She embarked on her quest along with a group of loved ones and loyal friends. After 3 months of relentless hiking, they reached the very top of the mountain. And there they discovered a beautiful lake inside the large crater of the ancient volcano. It was the most magnificent sight they had ever beheld. Ms. Daisy Turtleclops (and the rest of the group) fell absolutely in love with the place and never wanted to leave. So they decided to make Crater Lake their home. And that's how Turtleclops Mountain got its name.

Lily loves to hear this story from her mom over and over again. She is extremely proud of her Turtleclops heritage. When she grows up, Lily wants to be an adventurer just like her great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandma Daisy. And she says that no matter where she goes she'll always take her mother with her. Rose smiles at her daughter with pride.

After stamping the words (with the appropriate accents), I hammered and textured the heart. Then I attached a beautiful, highly detailed handmade polymer clay rose for an added dash of romance and strung the pendant onto a solid copper rollo chain with a lobster clasp.

Mrs. Pillai was my favorite English teacher at high school. In our 11th grade, we studied Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte under her and she had a way of bringing out the depth and passion in that dark story. During one of the classes she told us a bit about Emily Bronte's life and about her sister Charlotte Bronte and then she proceeded to quote this beautiful verse from a poem written by Charlotte Bronte:

"Though earth and man were gone,
And suns and universes ceased to be,
And Thou were left alone,
Every existence would exist in Thee."

That verse made a huge impression on me and has stayed with me all this time.

After all these years, when I was pondering on what beautiful words to inscribe on my necklace, the quote popped into my head and I knew I had to use it!

I created the pendant on a heart shaped thick (18 gauge) copper base by hand stamping the words "EVERY EXISTENCE WOULD EXIST IN THEE", then I hammered and textured it. Then attached it to a solid copper cable chain with a lobster clasp.

I put the necklace through an antiquing patina process to add depth to the designs and hand polished it to bring out the details and give it an old world charm.

Finally a gorgeous, deep red, dyed onyx charm as been attached to the bottom of the heart to give it that extra dash of elegance.

Rico and Diego met at a movie audition. Rico (the red guy) was auditioning to play the character of a man who had just encountered his twin from whom he had been separated at a carnival when he was a little boy. Diego (the yellow fellow) was auditioning for the part of the other twin.

When Diego went up to the stage, he started to sing a song and suddenly there was a whoop and the next thing he knew, the red colored stranger, Rico, was hugging him tightly with tears in his eyes.

It just so happened that Rico and Diego were in fact twins who had been separated at a carnival when they were 8 years old. Fortunately they had a family theme song that their mother had taught them should such an occasion arise.

Through all those years of being apart, the boys never forgot the song. And it was precisely this song that Diego had just broken into when Rico recognized it!

After all these years (30 to be exact), the brothers have found each other again and they couldn't be happier. They have become absolutely inseparable, like all brothers ought to be, and spend every moment together making up for all those lost years.

They enjoy watching the ocean while sitting back to back and like finding shapes in the clouds as they lie on the rocks but the one thing most dear to their hearts is to play hide and seek so they can relive the insanely joyous moment they found one another over and over again. :)

During my years of learning French at the Alliance Française de Bangalore, I had the good fortune of having many wonderful teachers, all with their own style of making the language beautiful for us. The one person who was MOST inspirational, with her passion for French and for teaching, was Mrs. Vidya Suresh. She is one of those teachers who you look at and think, "that's who I want to be when I grow up!" :)

During her course, she introduced us to a story close to her heart, Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and read us a beautiful quote from it.

"On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

This means, "One cannot see well but with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes".

Such a simple expression pregnant with meaning!

When I decided to start creating jewelry with quotes on it, this was the very first quote that came to mind and I made the necklace immediately.

I created the pendant with two heart shaped, thick (18 gauge) copper bases. I hand stamped the words "ON NE VOIT BIEN QU' AVEC LE COEUR" and hammered and textured them. Then I attached the small heart to the large one with fine copper wire, accented by a few copper rounds beads and a delicate handmade polymer clay rose in a deep red (burgundy) color.

The focal and the two wrapped beads are made of polymer clay. I had created those a while back and was waiting for that perfect jewelry design to strike me. Yesterday it did :)

I have accented the focal with a few lapis chips just to add that extra dash of deep blue.

The copper wire and beads have a beautiful patina which gives the piece an antique finish.

As in all my creations this set is unique and one of a kind. I have carved my initials in tiny letters at the back of the pendant. All my art jewelry creations are unique and I never make 2 pieces that are exactly alike! So you get an exclusive piece of jewelry which no one else in the world owns :)

Fine silver wire twisted and coiled to form these gorgeous earrings. Beautiful, sparkly 8 mm Swarovski crystals in a shade of aquamarine add the finishing touch. The wire has been naturally oxidized to highlight the details.

These long and dangly earrings are fairly light and very comfortable to wear.

In this stunning pendant, a gorgeous, high quality Persian Turquoise has been embedded in polymer clay which has been embellished with pearlescent powders. The bail is made out of fine (pure) silver wire.

I have charged the Turquoise with Reiki to enhance it's metaphysical energies. There is a gap on the backside of the pendant right behind the stones so there is no obstruction between the energy of the stone and the wearer.

As in all my creations, this is an exclusive, one of a kind piece. I have carved my initials in tiny letters on the back of the pendant.

A new store for a new year! :)

For my Birthday in November, I decided to start a new store just for my miniature clay sculptures. It's called Veganosaurus and is filled with miniature critters, monsters and the one and only Veganosaurus Jack!

I discovered a fabulous new material called iClay and have been thoroughly enjoying creating with it!! The colors are so happy and bright! :)

It is slightly different from polymer clay and each clay has its own set of benefits. So I will of course continue to create with my beloved polyclay but I'm also happy and grateful to have stumbled upon this new medium.

This necklace is a new style that I tried and it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces! Simple and elegant.

Two of my 18 mm pink ruffled roses are attached to the ends of a satin ribbon and one large 27 mm pink ruffled rose forms the focal on the ribbon. This large rose can be moved up and down along the ribbon to adjust the size of the necklace.

You just move the large rose to the bottom edge (close to the two other roses) and slip the 24 inch necklace over your head, then you move the large rose up towards your neck to adjust the fit of the necklace. And just with this simple movement you can wear this necklace in many different styles - as a choker, a long necklace or with the 2 smaller roses hanging at different levels by pulling one end of the ribbon lower than the other... My personal favorite is to pull the rose up right to the neck, comfortably cradled in the little depression above the collar bone.

The hole on the large rose is just snug enough to make its movement on the ribbon smooth and also ensure it stays exactly where you left it. The two roses in the end are tightly attached so they won't come off. First they were knotted there, then the knot was secured with jeweler's glue and finally wrapped with copper wire.

If you'd like this necklace with different colored roses, you are most welcome to convo me and I'll try to create something to your taste. Also, I am happy to make custom colored roses for your own jewelry creations and other crafts.

This 18 gauge coiled copper wire bangle, my ode to Hestia, has delicate copper wire vines, yellow polymer clay rose buds and jade beads.

Approximately 7 1/2 inches (fits a 6-7 inch wrist well).

Reiki Charged Gemstone Pendants

It all started with me running an errand for my mum. She wanted me to visit my gemstone/crystal guy and grab a couple of specific healing/protective crystals for my dad and sis. I always dread going to the guy... because if I do I end up blowing a LOT of cash in his store!!! Well this time I decided that I would walk in, pick up only what she asked for and walk out. And just to be safe, I'd carry only a little bit of cash. Can't possible spend what I don't have right? Ha! That's what I thought!!

Well, to cut a long story short, I came back home with a mother load of gemstone beads and cabs... hey what can a girl do if gorgeous beadies are offered to her at great prices??? Don't ask me how I managed to fish out the money for everything =oP

Anyways, here is the outcome of that shopping binge :)

I embedded the gemstone cabochons in polymer clay and created pendants. As always, I have charged each pendant with Reiki to enhance the metaphysical properties of the crystals used.
